An AI security concept for a vehicle logistics centre

01Situation

A vehicle logistics centre handles a large number of high-value vehicles on extensive, partly open grounds. External drivers, contractors and visitors come and go every day. Identification at the gate and monitoring of the site are largely manual.

02Challenge

With this area and vehicle density, a complete manual overview is barely possible. Gate processing slows logistics, theft and vandalism are real risks, and reliable information is often missing after incidents. Round-the-clock staff for the whole site is expensive – and still error-prone.

03Solution

The concept: an integrated security system with AI-supported video analysis built on the existing camera infrastructure: automated gate entry, monitoring of outdoor areas, zone-based access to sensitive areas and support in investigating incidents.

04Implementation

• —Gate access control: registered drivers are recognised, authorisation is checked automatically and every entry is logged.
• —Licence plate recognition for trucks on entry and exit, including at night and in rain, matched against orders and watch lists.
• —Perimeter monitoring of parking areas with existing cameras: distinguishing people, vehicles and animals, with alerts for unauthorised entry.
• —Zone-based access for workshops, key safes, IT and hazardous materials storage with full traceability.
• —Forensic video analysis to search recordings after an incident in a targeted way rather than manually.
• —Data protection from the start: biometrics only with a legal basis and consent, alternative access routes, defined retention periods and role-based permissions.
